glitched picture of me Bob's Brain - It Makes Thoughts

Thoughts are what your brain makes

I think I read that in a book about Zen (probably this book). Specifically Zazen meditation. You sit, staring at a wall, for a long time. No guided meditation. No purpose. No goal. You just let thoughts happen. Let 'em go buy. And apparently you learn, eventually, that thoughts are just what your brain makes. That's it. Some organs make chemical compounds. The brain makes thoughts (and also chemical compounds). Most of them aren't that important. Let 'em pass through.

For the record, I don't DO zazen. I just read about it.

This is kinda like my electronic blank wall I'm staring at.

A few other thoughts.

  • I think everyone deserves to live an authentic life without being subjected to bigotry, prejudice, etc. I support the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people, and well, everyone else.
  • I also think that everyone makes mistakes. None of us is perfect. Therefore I try to extend grace to those I deem to have made mistakes. Not a religious kind of grace, but a secular sort that is essentially the same thing.
  • If someone is repeatedly a dickhead then sorry, no grace for you. Grace is not to be abused.
