What to Write When You Enjoy Reading Everything?
When I decided recently on the personal project of writing a novel, I started to do a bit of research on how to go about it and how to pick what exactly to write about.
A number of things I read advised: Write what you enjoy reading.

...
But... I enjoy reading almost everything. I'm not devoted to reading any particular genre and, I'll be honest, I'm not that devoted to reading any particular authors. A lot of my choices are derived from recommendations from friends and what's available right now from the library.
I zoomed out a bit to consider other media I enjoy including shows, movies, and fiction podcasts. Again, tastes all over the place, but these are the main types I enjoy in the realm of other media:
- Mysteries (cozy types rather than police procedural)
- Historical dramas
- Science fiction
- Shows/movies with non-human creatures in them (less fantasy, though I do enjoy fantasy, than modern settings with creatures/monsters)
So that will help me narrow it down, I think. These genres are also not mutually exclusive. With this list in hand, I will sit down and brainstorm through it.
