Some people who appear to be socially successful can be very cold toward those in weaker positions. They tend to believe that their own effort and ingenuity led to their success, and therefore see people struggling financially as simply lacking effort. They may be equating human rights with business thinking. They do not consider that some people cannot even reach the starting line.
There are natural differences in individual abilities, but this is no more significant than the fact that not everyone can run 100 meters in 9 seconds. Even if someone is not good at one thing, they may excel at something else.
I also sometimes treat colleagues who do not achieve results at work coldly. I have told myself that this is just the nature of a competitive society. However, from another perspective, this might simply be arrogance. Things might be different if I were a manager, but as long as we are on the same level, I believe we should be kind to each other—for everyone’s sake.
