I Extend To You, My Extensions

As many people have done recently, I've moved away from using Google Chrome. I tried a few different browsers last year and found myself very happily using Mozilla Firefox as my main web browser (though if you need to stay on Chromium for whatever reason, I recommend Vivaldi). Last week, on my Mastodon account, I shared some of the Firefox extensions I've been using and asked for input from my followers about what extensions they use. Here I'd like to share some of my personal favorites and some of the more interesting ones people suggested to me.

• AI Search
  This allows me to open and use Perplexity search in a sidebar. I've been enjoying using this in addition to Kagi.
• Bitwarden
  For auto-filling paswords from my self-hosted Bitwarden instance.
• Dark Reader
  Dark mode for every website!
• Facebook Container
  Prevent Facebook from tracking you around the web.
• Firefox Color
  Allows me to use a beautiful catppuccin macchiato theme.
• GIPHY for Firefox
  Who doesn't love GIFs?
• LanguageTool
  Grammar and Spell Checker
• Kagi Search
  Sets Kagi as the default search engine logged-in in Private Browsing Windows, and summarizes pages using Kagi Summarizer.
• LibRedirect
  Redirect domains to privacy friendly ones i.e. Twitter > Nitter.
• Linkwarden
  Quickly save pages to self-hosted Linkwarden instance.
• Old Reddit Redirect
  Just what it says on the label: reddit.com > old.reddit.com.
• Privacy.com
  Generate 1-click virtual card numbers at checkout.
• Privacy Badger
  Block trackers. Probably redundant with UBlock Origin installed.
• Save to Koofr
  Save web content and files to koofr.eu cloud storage.
• Share to Mastodon
  Quickly share web content to your Mastodon account.
• Simple Translate
  Quickly translate text on websites using Google Translate or DeepL API.
• SponsorBlock for YouTube
  Block sponsorships in YouTube videos.
• StreetPass for Mastodon
  Finds fediverse users as you browse the web.
• uBlock Origin
  If you only install one extension, make it this one. Blocks ads and trackers. Extremely customizable.
• yt-dlp downloader
  Download YouTube content with yt-dlp. Only works on Linux.

• Tabliss
  A new tab page with beautiful backgrounds
• Firefox Multi-account Containers
  Firefox Multi-Account Containers lets you keep parts of your online life separated into color-coded tabs. Cookies are separated by container, allowing you to use the web with multiple accounts and integrate Mozilla VPN for an extra layer of privacy.
• Shinigami Eyes
  A browser addon that highlights transphobic and trans-friendly social network pages and users with different colors.
• Awesome RSS
  Puts an RSS/Atom subscribe button back in URL bar.
• Save WebP as PNG or JPEG
  Convert any image (WebP, AVIF, etc.) to PNG or JPEG (with choice of quality) for downloading. Right-click context menu calls up format options overlaid on the image.
• uBlacklist
  Blacklist sites from appearing in Google search results
• Decentraleyes
  Protects you against tracking through "free", centralized, content delivery. It prevents a lot of requests from reaching networks like Google Hosted Libraries, and serves local files to keep sites from breaking.
