Changelog August 11th — August 13th

Just a few things I wanted to tidy after last week’s Appearance work — custom themes were still showing a bunch of settings that don’t actually do anything, and photos were getting a bit squeezed. August 11, 2026• 💅 Theme Editor — your themes sit at the top now. Upload and the starter kit live further down, and once you’ve got a theme the kit tucks away. I don’t like clutter — and I try my best to reduce it. • ✨ Switching back to a built-in theme — this used to turn off your custom theme the moment you...

Changelog August 5th — August 10th

I'm back from holiday. And yeah, I had my phone on me so I could do some minimal stuff last week — was kinda cool to work in the terminal on my machine... that sat at home. So here goes! Homepage can be a real page now, Appearance gets proper header layout controls (with a live sketch), and custom domains get a bit more hand-holding when DNS is still catching up (or when blogs move away — totally cool). August 5, 2026• ✨ A page as your homepage — under Display you can set a published page as the site...

Changelog August 3rd — August 4th

A quieter stretch of polish — lightbox images behave better, captions show up where they should, and image uploads on your own domain work again when you’re signed in. August 3, 2026• ✨ Center list dates — under Display you can show homepage and archive dates as plain centered text, like on the post itself, instead of the pill buttons. Nice when the pills feel like too much chrome. • 💅 Smarter lightbox images — zoom picks a size that fits your screen (up to 3000px), shows the page image first so it feels instant, then swaps in the sharper...

Changelog July 25th — August 1st

Just a few minor things that I wanted to address since the more busy changes the other week — Explore settles a bit, custom themes catch up with the built-in ones, and categories get a proper tidy. July 24, 2026• 💅 Richer Explore gallery — the image gallery can pull from deeper discover posts, so you’ve got more photos to browse when the top of the feed is quiet. More photos please. :) • 🚀 Snappier Explore — mid-feed featured blogs and image strips load as you scroll, instead of holding up the whole page. Loads of things were happening,...

Changelog July 24th

Quieter and focused writing, stickies get a little love, and signing in on your own domain behaves better. July 24, 2026• 💅 Calmer writing — Draft sits beside Save now, autosave is quieter (preview shows up once you’ve got something saved), Saving/Saved is back on the publish button in a quiet way — just a visual cue as it's autosaving, categories are easier to pick or create, and draft sharing lives in a small tray next to Download instead of being buried and hard to figure out. Page options are simpler too. Just trying to get the writing screen out...

Changelog July 22nd — July 23rd

More settings tidy-up (still a longer road), Explore’s image gallery gets a bit nicer, and a few rough edges around dates and highlights. July 22, 2026• 💅 Dark mode highlights — white highlight marks were turning into solid white blobs in dark mode. They now get a soft yellow wash so you can actually read them. • 💅 Explore gallery — short posts with images show up in the gallery now, and I dropped the “Featured” labels. Felt like clutter in the UI. July 23, 2026• 💅 Settings keep getting sorted — Nitpick is now Display, Menu is Header &...

Scribbles Analytics

For anyone following my work over the past years you probably know that I've built my own analytics service, Tinylytics. Over the years, in Scribbles, you could easily copy in your embed script and it would track visitors and also allow for Kudos (think "Likes") on posts. That was followed by surfacing this data straight in the admin — which uses some in-house back and forth between Scribbles and Tinylytics. It worked great (just didn't look it). At the same time, this caused friction — not just from trying to embed the script and finding it, but also confusion why...

Changelog July 22nd

Longer Scribble conversations, Classic theme fonts catch up, and lifetime members can chip in when they’re ready. July 22, 2026• ✨ Longer Scribble exchanges — a note thread (Send a Scribble) can now run to four messages, so a send and a reply aren’t the end of the conversation. Just a little bit more to talk, without having to resort to email. Still trying to keep it intentional. • ✨ Theme fonts on Classic — the font picker under Appearance works with the Classic theme too (default version 1), same curated set and hosted stylesheet option as Default and Typewriter....
