Changelog August 11th — August 13th

Just a few things I wanted to tidy after last week’s Appearance work — custom themes were still showing a bunch of settings that don’t actually do anything, and photos were getting a bit squeezed.

August 11, 2026

• 💅 Theme Editor — your themes sit at the top now. Upload and the starter kit live further down, and once you’ve got a theme the kit tucks away. I don’t like clutter — and I try my best to reduce it.
• ✨ Switching back to a built-in theme — this used to turn off your custom theme the moment you clicked, which wasn’t great. Theme Editor is the main button now. “Use built-in theme” just opens the three built-in theme cards — you pick one, then save.
• 💅 Hiding settings that don’t apply — if you’re on a custom theme, Appearance keeps colours and browser chrome. Layout, fonts, header layout, page width… that’s all in your custom theme. Display drops the built-in-only date style too, and search follows along. Same idea as last week — hide things when you don’t need them.
• 💅 Editing another blog — if you’re in settings for a blog that isn’t the one you currently have selected, there’s a little sticky bar with the title and URL. Just so you know where you are. That tripped me up a few times in the past.

• 💅 Classic archive search — the button uses your accent colour now. Small thing, thanks Chris.

August 13, 2026

• 💅 Taller photos — published images can be a bit taller now (up to 42rem, or 90% of the screen — for those that know). Portraits were feeling a bit boxed in. Thanks Chris.
• 🐛 Portrait images — tall photos were being treated like a square, so they came out skinny. They keep the width you asked for now. Also, thanks Chris.
• ⚠️ Link blogging — I added this to the use restriction policy. Blogs mainly for SEO backlinks, private blog networks, that sort of thing… Scribbles isn’t for that. Writing a blog with links in it is completely fine. Most of you won’t notice this at all.
• 🧼 Suspended accounts — if this happens, you get a reason by email, you can download a Markdown copy of your writing, and you can still read the policies. I’d rather you had your words than not. I ran a few today, so you know... keeping on top of this. Suspended accounts will automatically delete after some time.
