Hi Scribbles!
I have found this site through this platform list.
I admit, I have a bit of a blogging obsession. I'm looking for the right place to call home for my blogging endeavors, even though I have already gained traction by daily posting on my primary blog and secondary blog.
Technically, this would be my fourth blog, as I checked out Pagecord yesterday. Interestingly enough, Scribbles doesn't have the option to have your own blog slug. Instead of having your username/blogname as the slug, Scribbles free plan locks you into a randomly generated one.
Not a fan of this particular method, but it's a way to get people to switch over to a subscription plan. There's an option below that says "Need to change your slug? Get in touch"; however, perhaps they implemented randomly generated slugs to prevent spam? Maybe you can change the slug under a free plan if you reach out via email?
The context is unknown, and when I'm trying to get familiar with a platform, I generally want to explore a bit before reaching out.
What I will say is that Scribbles seems to have a lot more customization features, neatly displayed in their settings. It's appealing to look at, responds quickly, and already offers a lot more options out of the box, even on a free plan. I can't speak to how much is actually locked via subscription as I've just clicked around for a few minutes, but the fact that I had lots to click around was telling for how much they wish to offer.
Plus, Scribbles is created by the same dev of Tinylytics, which is something I've encountered and plan to use if I commit to the Pika blog long term.
Still clicking around -- I found that Scribbles has a Discover feed of their own, which is pretty exciting. I like that Bearblog has their own Discover feed, and I asked Pika about the Discover feature. They reported back, stating that they previously had one called 'Pika Pulse' but ultimately decided to close it down.
It's a shame, because out of the options so far, I think I like Pika blog the most. But again, that's why I'm exploring everything I can get my hands on. I know I will commit to blogging long-term, years and years, so I want to say I did my due diligence in trying out everything I could get my hands on.
Another thing I noticed with the Scribbles text-editor is that it has an infinitely growing text editor, so in order to see what I type as the box extends, I have to keep scrolling down. It's unfortunate, and this platform at this stage seems like a miss for me. If I have to work outside of the editor, like using Obsidian to draft before pasting into the text editor - that will be a disruption to my flow I don't prefer.
Ultimately, I'm grateful that Scribbles exists and I will keep an eye out for their features and check out other blog posts on their platform. For now, I don't know if I'll commit to daily posting here as I am on the other 3 blogs I've created already.
Thanks for reading and being here!
Sincerely,
Nadine ♥
