Random Notes

  • This week was a bit different for me. Last Sunday evening, I started feeling a bit under the weather. It's been unusually warm here in North Carolina and the pollen has been in full swing, so I blamed it on allergies. As the night progressed, I decided I'd take the day off from work to rest up some more, which I'm glad I did. I slept horribly. I transitioned from freezing to sweating and back and forth. The next morning, I was still feeling rough, so I took an at home COVID test that came back positive. I decided to run up to the urgent care just to verify (and to have proof for work, which thankfully I did because it was the first thing they asked for) and of course, it was positive. So, COVID finally caught up with me.
  • My symptoms have been quite mild compared to a lot of folks I know, but I have been lethargic so I've spent most of my time sleeping and watching TV. I had quite a few drafts of blogs that needed to be published, so that kept things moving along here and over at Fat-Kids. But you'll notice this post is a bit light and that is the reason behind it.
  • So, what did I watch this week? Well, I finally watched all of Peacemaker, which was amazing. I followed that up with season three of The Boys. I also watched Plane, which was a fun throwback action movie. And I re-watched 21 and 22 Jumpstreet. There was also a handful of sitcoms and lots of starts and stops, but that was the majority of it. Peacemakerwas by far the best of the lot.
  • The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer came out. As expected, I'm not in that targeted demo range, but that's okay. Just another piece of Turtles media to keep the franchise alive for future generations. It's a bit more mature looking than Rise of the TMNT, so I may still give it a watch.
  • I started playing Doom 64. I've had it for a couple of years now on my PS5 and I've been struggling to get into gaming lately. I actually have a post I need to publish about it. Anyway, I've been quite impressed with it. I didn't really know what the difference was but man, it's definitely a unique take on Doom. I'm enjoying it at least and it was well worth the $1.99 I paid for it.
  • My sleep schedule has been messed up thanks to this illness and I found myself really struggling Friday night. I'm not sure why, but a theme song snuck into my head and it began with, "It was 1801 and the Revolution had been won...." I doubt many will know what show it refers to, but it was a short lived Bruce Campbell led series called Jack of All Tradesfrom 2001. It was a show I fell in love with when it was airing and I haven't seen it in years. Luckily, I found one episode on YouTube and so, I fell asleep laughing and smiling at the stupidity that is Jack of All Trades. Now, I need to find the rest of the episodes and give this a proper rewatch.
  • Prior to getting sick, I decided to install ClassicPress on a test site. I was amazed at how easily it installed and it did cut down on some clutter and annoyances I have with Wordpress. However, most of the themes I've experimented did not work which would mean some sacrifices would need to be made. My biggest concern with trying out something like ClassicPress is just not knowing if its going to be around for very long. It looked like they had some drama last year which is a bit of a red flag.
  • I will say, if you want a basic website using something like one of Wordpress' old default themes, I think it's a pretty good choice. In a weird way, it does off that minimalist writing environment without all the Jetpack annoyances, need for plugins, and whatnot.
