Mending Slippers
Due to medical reasonings, I'm incredibly clumsy. I run into things ALL THE TIME. This can be really tough on shoes.
I purchased a really nice pair of slippers a few years back that are warm, have incredible grip, and just feel great wearing around the house. Without saying how much - these slippers cost me more than I'd like to admit to paying for them. Worth it, but I don't want to admit it!
I've run into so many things around the house that the front of one of the slippers separated. Given the cost of how much I paid, I did NOT want to just throw them away and get a new pair... so I decided to research how to mend shoes.
First I prepped the separated parts by sanding them down, this helps the shoe glue stick. I then put the shoe glue in and wrapped my slipper in rubber bands to hold the two parts together, letting it sit for 24 hours. After 24 hours I used a curved leather needle and some waxed thread to sew the sole back to the main part of the slipper.
With it being my first time it certainly isn't a "pretty" mend, but it is durable. (And it's a house slipper -who cares what it looks like as long as it's functional.) It's held up with no problems for almost two weeks now - I call that a win!
