A guy in silhouette against a slightly warm toned sky, sat on a beach wall with one hand behind propping him up, and the other holding a phone in front of him. There is a glass of cider balanced on the wall top in front of him, which the light is shining through, so appears as the only spot of amber colour. Blogbear

A nice greeting today

We found a nice greeting when we arrived at a local woods we frequent ('we' being myself and my small white terrier).

I particularly like the lack of an exclamation mark. I think it makes the sentiment more genuine.

Have a lovely day

Have a lovely day!

It's kind of more gentle, and not so 'gushing with a touch of insincere tacky' without it.

People seem to use exclamation marks all over the place! Everything needs to be exciting! And they think adding one makes it exciting!

Perhaps that's a young person thing, or a social media or messaging thing, like emoji use, but I think in this case the choice not to use an exclamation mark is a good one.

Of course, the other view is that the well-wisher found that there simply wasn't enough space to add one.
