The joy of blog design
ThoughtA lot of people enjoy art, or photography, and the like. I enjoy these things also, to a certain extent, but I’ve realised my favourite form of ‘art’ or design is personal blog design.
I can’t do it myself and, thankfully, with Scribbles, Vincent has provided a nice clean design I just love. I think the reason that I’ve tried, and failed, in the past to design something truly unique for myself probably has a lot to do with the reason I enjoy drooling over some of the incredibly well designed blogs I regularly come across in my corner of Mastodon.
Whilst this is, in no way, an exhaustive list, some of my personal favourites include:
- rknight.me - I mean, just look at that logo to start with. As a child of the 80s I can really dig the Saved By The Bell (in a good way!) vibes. Robb has done an incredible job with this beautiful site.
- Apple Annie’s Weblog - Annie has heavily modified a weblog.lol site, to wonderful effect.
- anildash.com - Anil’s site is just so clean, and relaxing to browse.
- gregmorris.co.uk - Greg has gone through a few iterations of his blog but his current build is very impressive. He’s been working really hard on this, tweaking it to his needs.
I enjoy RSS as much as the next nerd, but there really is a lot to enjoy by visiting a blog directly. I highly recommend exploring and experiencing a blog as the creator intended. RSS absolutely has its place, but a lot of the joy of reading someone’s content is really lost whilst doing so.
What are some of your favourites?
