Overthinking my superpower
lifeIf you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always only ever had 2 answers to this question: teleportation and ability to fly. Sometimes I would alternate between the two answers, but for the most part, my default answer has been teleportation.
I think the why is pretty self-explanatory. I can be anywhere I want to be in a snap. I can visit my parents (who I haven’t seen in YEARS) across the country and be back by dinner time. Back in the before times when I worked in an office, I could skip the commute and endless traffic.
There are as many options to this answer as your imagination allows. Even in picking a super power, I try to remain practical, which ruins the fun, but I can't help it. Teleportation would allow me achieve the same goal as flying, but without the journey itself. I'd miss the (probably gorgeous) views and flying would take longer to get places, while teleportation would get me there in an instant.
I guess that’s why I keep going back and forth between the two options. Ultimately, my goal is simple: to reach my destination without the hassle of flights, cars, etc. Teleportation offers the convenience of skipping straight to the destination, but sometimes the journey itself holds the greatest value. It's during the journey that you discover more about yourself and connect with others. You get to learn about things that you may not get by skipping to the destination. But then again, if I'm in a rush to get somewhere, I just want to arrive with the least amount of hassle.
I don't know... I mean, what would you choose?
Side Note(s):
- This post is Day 25 of the WeblogPoMo2024 challenge.
- I clearly have thought about this a lot and probably way too much. Sometimes my brain overthinks things and takes the fun out of the question, but these are the things that go through my mind often.
- My third super power that I’ve been wanting to add to my list of options when I get asked this question is: the ability to talk to animals. Remember Eliza Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys. I would love to be able to talk to my dog.
- What other superpowers would you choose?
