My Blogging Workflow

blogging

I want to be a part of the cool kids club so I figured I'd talk about my blogging workflow too. This one is how I'm currently doing my WeblogPoMo posts, because before this... I didn't really post as much, which means I didn't really have a set workflow for my long-form posts. So here we go...

  1. Look at my list of topics I've jotted down (on Bear App)
  2. Decide that I don't really want to write about any of them despite being excited about it at one point
  3. Open up Bear, start writing whatever comes to mind (desktop or mobile)
  4. Come up with a title
  5. Create the image companion, come up with some sort of tagline to go with the image
  6. Copy as Rich text from Bear app (I write in markdown)
  7. Open Scribbles, and paste the text. Upload the image I created at the bottom of my post.
  8. Select the category
  9. Re-read the post 10 more times, hover over publish. Obsess about it for a little bit more before clicking Publish.
  10. Write a quick blurb about it on Mastodon and Micro.blog then post with image linking to the original post on Scribbles
  11. Edit original post - link the Mastodon and Mb posts to it
  12. Save the post with the images to Obsidian for local archive. Add to index.

My process seems a bit tedious, and it kind of is especially towards the end with having to post in various places manually. I know I should be able to automate a lot of this with tools that are readily available and one day I'm really considering it... but for now I’m OK with this.

Side Note(s):

  • This post is Day 18 of the WeblogPoMo2024 challenge.
  • The blogging workflow originated from someone asking Robb Knight what his workflow was. Then a few people I followed started writing their own version like: Barry, Robert, Jason and Jon.
  • Robert also is kindly keeping track of those who have posted one, so there will probably be more after this is posted.
  • I’m a little behind on Step 12, but am working on catching up.
