After WeblogPoMo comes JUnited 2024

challenges

I officially joined the IndieWeb for blogging around the end of March. When April came around, I participated in Micro.blog's April Photo Challenge where you were encouraged to post a photo a day based on a crowdsourced prompt. That was the first time I’ve ever joined any kind of community (blog) challenge, and really enjoyed the camraderie and seeing other people’s contributions. I was able to discover a lot of new blogs just by perusing the day’s entries. I was a bit sad to see it end.

Thankfully, towards the end of April, Annie announced a new May challenge. Enter: WeblogPoMo2024, where this time we were just encouraged to put up a post for 31 days (I took this as 1-daily, but others have different rules). Some people did a theme for the entire month, others wrote about whatever came to mind (like me). Now that the challenge is ending, it’s a bit bittersweet. I still have to write a reflection post about how this challenge challenged me, but this post is not it.

This post is about an upcoming challenge for June.

For June, Robert suggested a new challenge titled - JUnited: A Blog Love Letter. Throughout the month of May, Robert took the initiative to consolidate posts around similar themes like people’s blogging workflows and why we write. This is yet another way to encourage participation in this little community that was somehow built organically through the challenge, and I think that’s pretty great.

I was a bit back and forth on this. Do I really want to do another challenge right now? The answer is yes. After all, I hate backing out of a challenge (questionable whether or not I actually succeed but that’s another story). I think I may take a break from daily writing, but participating in this supports those who write/post some pretty great things so other people may also enjoy what they have to share. As Robert describes it in the Challenge’s intro post:

Simply put, share links to blogs and posts that you want the rest of the world to discover: a new post, an old favorite, or a blog you like. Instead of writing a new post each time, the idea is to have a permanent Junited 2024 entry that you update with new links throughout the month.

Will you join us?

Side Note(s):

  • This post is Day 26 of the WeblogPoMo2024 challenge.
  • I am still planning out where I will be posting my list for JUnited2024. I’m going back and forth between here or on With Love, JCProbably — I’ll write another post with the link before the start. Stay tuned.
  • I’m looking forward to seeing people’s lists. I think this will be a great way to discover and support other bloggers.
